About Me

Hello, world! My name is John Terzi and my professional life is dedicated to languages. I have a Master’s in Linguistics Studies and Language Acquisition from Syracuse University and a Bachelor’s in Chinese and Linguistics from the University of Maryland, College Park. I am a full-time foreign language teacher, but I create Conlangs on the side. I have conducted case studies in Foreign Language Anxiety and have done countless research summaries of dialectical syntax, phonology, and morphology.

Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, I am a native English speaker, but I never felt connected to the language. Even as a child, I wanted to be fluent in every language I could possibly learn. So far, I have reached proficiency in Mandarin Chinese, French, and Portuguese and have plans of learning Arabic, Hindi, and Russian. I am inspired by the world around me, including its 7000 (known) languages and the cultures that come with them.

What to expect from me…

With each of my Conlangs come detailed descriptions of the speakers, geography, and associated cultures and customs. My goal is to eventually provide full grammars for each language so they are maximally available to fulfill such requests. In order to guarantee the spirit of natural language, each Conlang is inspired by real languages in the world. I develop original writing systems for every creation so as to ensure the uniqueness of the product. Inspiration largely comes from Western, Southern, and Eastern Asian linguistic phenomenon because of its enormous diversity, tonal and writing systems, and phonologies.
